I was invited by the International Women's Contact in the Hague to give a talk on "Cyprus women" (under the auspices of the Embassy of Cyprus in the Netherlands). More than 100 members of the IWC attended the talk!

I was Invited to give a talk on "Language and identity in Cyprus" hosted by the Dutch Society of Modern Greek Studies at the University of Amsterdam.

I was the discussant for the film 'Do I sound gay?' hosted by the Linguistics Movie night series of LUCL.

For my pre-union lecture for incoming BA International Studies students I spoke about 'Some received ideas about languages – and what linguists think about them'.

When the Art Theater decided decided to screen "Zorba the Greek" as part of their Essential Cinema series, they invited me for a post-film discussion and Q&A (May 4, 2015).

I was invited by Hellenic Hellenic Link-Midwest to give a talk on “Toward a social history of language in Cyprus” (Chicago, April 14, 2013).

I gave a lecture on “The Greek language: The question of continuity and the dialects” as part of the Osher Lifelong Learning Center's 8-week course "Constructing Greek identity" (March 8, 2013).

April 2012
I spoke to Chicago Tribune journalist John Kass on the phone shortly before he left for Greece. Shortly after that, he wrote this article about Greece.

February-March 2012
Promoting the 1st Champaign Greek film festival on March 2 & 3 involved quite a bit of community outreach. Among others, the press coverage for the festival included an Inside Illinois article on February 16, radio interviews on WILL AM 580 and on WPTO, TV features on UI7 and on the local evening news on March 3.

July 2011
On Friday, July 15, I was interviewed via skype for Greek satellite channel ERT WORLD's "Odysseia" weekly broadcast (10-11pm GMT+2). In the studio was Greek Alternate Minister of Education Mrs Fofi Gennimata responsible for Greek language education abroad and the other participants in the program were Professor Roderick Beaton (King's College London) and Professor Richard Martin (Stanford University).

A few months ago I was interviewed by IBMCs' Chris Peters for their project '50 Nations of Hip Hop'. The interview has now been published at britishhiphop.co.uk

February 2011
February 22 is World Thinking Day celebrated by Girl Guides and Girl Scouts all over the world. One of the focus countries this year is Cyprus, along with Bolivia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Nepal, and Yemen. So I'll be talking about it between 6:00-7:30pm at the Faith UMC Worship and Life Building, 1719 S. Prospect in Champaign.

I was recently invited to talk about The Languages of Global Hip Hop at WBL's annual international hip hop teach-in in Washington DC. Words, Beats, and Life is a non-profit organization dedicated to to transforming individual lives and communities through hip-hop. The panel I'll be taking part in is "Let the Rhythm Hit'Em: More than a Movement" and it's scheduled for Saturday, November 20, 5.45-7pm.

September 2010
September 22 saw the US release of The Languages of Global Hip Hop, a collection of thirteen essays to the study of languages used in hip hop communities across the globe (Cyprus, Egypt, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Norway, South Korea, and the US) that I edited. To celebrate, a discussion with five of the contributors was held at the Author's corner of the U of I bookstore on September 17, and the September 22 show of Mare Nostrum was dedicated to hip-hop from the Mediterranean.

February 2010
February 21 is International Mother Language Day. To celebrate, the Bangladeshi Student Association put together an interactive 'wall of emotions', as well as an evening of song and dance, during which they invited me to talk about 'Mother Tongues'.
